Press Release

The 42nd Legislative District Democrats held their endorsement meeting, Saturday May 12, at Tillicum House in Pioneer Park, Ferndale.  Our progressive agenda of government that works for the people, protecting individuals rights and assuring that prosperity is accessible to all, was the criteria for evaluating candidates.

In a unanimous vote, Natalie McClendon received the official nomination as Democratic Party candidate for State House of Representative, 42nd district, position 1. McClendon said, "I’m running because Whatcom County and the 42nd Legislative District needs someone fighting to solve our very real and serious problems that our families and neighbors are facing daily. Pointless ideological posturing and a “just say no” attitude doesn’t cut it."

Redistricting has changed the boundaries of the State Legislative and U.S. Congressional Districts. Much of the 42nd LD is now within the new 1st Congressional District where five Democrats are competing for a spot on the November ballot. Four of the five Democratic Congressional candidates attended the endorsement meeting.

Darcy Burner received the sole endorsement for the 1st Congressional District seat. 42nd LD Democrats Chair Sherry Zeilstra said, "With a number of very good candidates to choose from, our membership chose to endorse only the best. Darcy Burner is a candidate we can count on to put the interests of The People before the interests of Wall Street or the political establishment. Darcy is a candidate with the courage to stand up to bullies and always stick to our core Democratic values."
